The Peaks and Plains Swimming League is run jointly by Affiliated swimming clubs from Cheshire West and Cheshire East. The League is affiliated with Swim England North West Region and runs an annual team swimming competition. These team galas which typically take under 2 hours to run are aimed at very inexperienced swimmers and provide a gentle and generally noisy introduction to swimming.

2016 saw a big change in the Peak and Plains League, interest in the league had been falling in recent years due to difficulties with the existing scoring system. Swimmers were competing when ineligible, this lead to retrospective penalties being applied which, in turn, changed the overall results of many galas.

8 clubs came together to adopt a new gala format, based on the Arena Minor League with a scoring system which would mean that the scores on the night would not change. The changes also enabled smaller clubs to remain competetitive in light of the reduced numbers of swimmers caused by the loss of club based Learn to Swim Programs.
