Peaks and Plains Swimming League Rules 2026
The Peaks and Plains Swimming League is judged in accordance with World Aquatics rules". The League is aimed at inexperienced Swimmers an a dispensation is made to allow swimmers to start in the water. Swimmers must start in the water where the depth of the pool is less that 1.5 m.
Eligibility
Swimmers must be 9 years of age by the end of the year in which they compete, 8 year olds can only compete in relay events
Swimmers must be members of the Club which they represent at the time of the events
Swimmers can only swim for one club in a given year of league competition
Swimmers must be registered members of Swim England/ASA (Category 1)
Limits on Individual Swimmers
The following restrictions apply to each Individual swimmer
- Each swimmer can compete in a maximum of 5 events
- Each Swimmer may swim in a maximum of 2 individual events in their own age group (3 for 15 and over age group)
- Each Swimmer may swim an additional individual event in a higher age group
- Each Swimmer may swim any number of relays (providing they don't swim more than 5 events in total)
Relays
The following rules apply to relays, the league acknowledges that clubs are struggling to recruit younger swimmers and the goal is to allow the swimmers to compete:
- Relays are mixed and wherever possible must have at least on member of each sex. Where a club is unable to field a mixed relay team a single sex team may be swum
- If a club has only three swimmers for a relay then they the first swimmer may swim again in the last length
- Teams may swim an older swimmer down to allow a relay team to compete but this will be treated as an exhibition swim, no certificates or points will be awarded
Scoring
The following scoring applies to all events:
- A Speeding ticket is presented to all swimmers whose time is faster or equal to the Speed Limit
- Zero points are awarded for swimmers whose time is faster or equal to the Speed Limit
- Zero Points are awarded to swimmers who are disqualified
- Points are awarded in order of finish after speed limits have been excluded.
for Galas in eight lane pools, the points run from 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
for Galas in six lane pools, the points run from 6,5,4,3,2,1
for Galas in four lane pools, the points run from 4,3,2,1

A club which does not enter a swimmer in an event will be deemed to have swum legally and finished last and awarded points accordingly. If multiple teams fail to provide a swimmer in the same event they will occupy last place jointly and be awarded the average of the points for the shared places
Gala Results
The winner of the gala is determined from the accumulated score over all events. Where two teams score the same number of points they share the position.
